Horatio Caine (David Caruso)
Truly one of the most famous characters in CSI Miami is Lt. Horatio Caine. Lt. Caine was named after his the famous author Horatio Alger. Caine has a dark family history as his own father murdered his mother. After working in New York as a detective in NYPD, Caine decided to move to Miami. However, while investigating one case on a murdered family, Caine was stabbed by a man named Walter Resden, who has a long standing grudge on Caine.
Walter’s grudge was so deep that he saved and preserved Caine’s blood to use it as a tool to frame up Caine for the bloody murder of Rachel Turner, Caine’s girlfriend. Immediately after arriving Miami, Caine joined the Police Department of Miami Dade as homicide detective. Eventually, he moved to the department’s bomb squad. Caine was fortunately mentored by an older cop named Al Humphries. Caine and Humphries developed good friendship with each other. However, Humphries died in an bomb accident. Lt. Horatio Caine is played by veteran actor David Stephen Caruso. David was born on January 7, 1956 in New York, particularly in the Forest Hills Gardens in Queens. David is the son of newspaper editor Charles Caruso and librarian Joan Caruso. David was raised within the morals of the Roman Catholic religion. David and his wife was blessed with a loving daughter named Greta. David’s career in the limelight started in 1980 where he appeared in the movie Getting Wasted.
